Big Church Day Out

Worshiping with thousands of Christians from many nations really touched me.

I had a wonderful time sharing with many potential pilots and engineers the work of MAF and encouraging them to pray about serving God in this capacity. I remember being at an event when I was 11 in Northern Ireland and having a go on an MAF simulator and just being so excited!
Seeing many children at this event with the same enthusiasm was so great, hoping that like me maybe one or two of those kids would be inspired to serve God in this way, but that all of them would know the love of Jesus and want to share it!

Daniel was born in the Himalayan kingdom of Nepal to Northern Irish missionary parents. It was there that a heart for mission and a life of adventure was born in him. Witnessing first-hand the impact of holistic gospel ministry, Daniel saw the great privilege of sharing with people, especially those in rural areas. He also saw the need for access to these areas to make this ministry possible.

The first seven years of his life Daniel lived in rural villages that were hard to get to or didn’t even have road access. Daniel’s father was working as the project manager on Hydro power site and his mother a nurse/midwife helping in maternal child health care. The construction site often needed large mechanical components; these were often flown in by helicopter. This is where Daniel’s interest in aviation started and was bitten by the aviation bug.

Daniel and his family left Nepal when his mother became ill. However through this time God revealed Himself to Daniel and he accepted Jesus as his Saviour. After spending five years in Northern Ireland Daniel’s family returned to Nepal when he was 12 and he was already considering a career in aviation through the RAF. A few years later several MAF pilots and managers came to Kathmandu to look into setting up in Nepal. They invited Daniel’s father to dinner to learn more about Nepal, and Mark brought Daniel along. Once the MAF pilot’s showed Daniel pictures and videos of MAF’s work he knew that this was what God wanted him to do. MAF combined perfectly Daniel’s interest in aviation, heart to serve people and work in remote areas worldwide.

From here Daniel completed his A-levels at boarding school in South India before moving to Melbourne Australia to study a diploma of Mission Aviation. He studied five years, doing Bible College, Aircraft maintenance and finally Flight training. During this time he also worked at World Vision learning and increasing his desire to see change and help where he could. Daniel really feels God has designed and grown him for serving, every step of training him has encouraged him more than he could have dreamed of to be able to serve God in MAF.

However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me – the task of testifying to the gospel of God’s grace.
